FAQ about IP-range release in the firewall for the European servers

Applies to:• mbDIALUP • mbNET • mbNET.rokey • mbNET.mini in conjunction with the European remote maintenance portals

Why do I need to whitelist an IP range? We are improving our infrastructure to provide you with a more stable and secure connection in the future. To ensure you continue to have uninterrupted access to our services, it is necessary to whitelist an IP range instead of a single IP address in your firewall.
Which IP range do I need to whitelist?

Please add the following IP range to your firewall configuration:
Range 5.39.123.16/28
alternative notation: Start IP 5.39.123.16 / End IP 5.39.123.31
alternative notation: 5.39.123.16 / 255.255.255.240

Does whitelisting the IP range affect IT security?

Whitelisting the IP range only affects outgoing connections, so the security risk is minimal. No additional incoming connections are allowed, thus your network security is not compromised. Moreover, all IP addresses in this range belong to a single, trusted entity, further minimizing the risk.

Does this affect my existing account?

No, this has no immediate impact on existing accounts. Your current configuration will continue to work. Whitelisting the new IP range is a preventive measure to avoid future connection issues.

What happens if I do not whitelist the IP range? If the IP range is not whitelisted, there may be connection issues in the future as our systems may switch to new IP addresses that are not included in your current firewall configuration.
When should the IP range be whitelisted?

We recommend whitelisting the IP range as soon as possible to ensure no interruptions occur when the changes to our infrastructure take effect.

Can I continue to whitelist a single IP address?

While you can currently continue to whitelist a single IP address, we strongly advise whitelisting the entire IP range to avoid future problems.

How will I learn about changes to IP ranges in the future?

By adjusting to the IP range communicated here, we are future-proof and currently do not plan any further changes in the coming years.

We will notify you in advance of any changes to our IP ranges. Please ensure that your contact information in your account is always up-to-date so that you receive our notifications.

Where do I set the IP range?

This is not a setting in the RSP or on the router. It is about the firewall, which is positioned between the router and the Internet and is therefore connected upstream of the mbNET or the PC with the mbDIALUP software. In the current configurations, the IP addresses 5.39.123.4 or 5.39.123.20 may be entered as permitted destinations. This configuration must be extended to the specified address range. If outgoing connections are not currently filtered according to the destinations contacted, we recommend making appropriate adjustments to increase security.

What happens if I use a router with a mobile network connection?

In this case, only the mobile network provider's infrastructure is situated between the mbNET and the Internet. There is nothing to configure here.
